Most Memorable Run OR Race:

A 19K trail race in Saxon, Switzerland! I had never done a trail course before, everyone participating spoke only French, and I was wildly out of my comfort zone. It was terrifying but overall an amazing experience and easily the most beautiful place I'd ever run.

Most Memorable Race:

I took many years off of focused training and racing for family and work. When I returned to running, I had no intentions of marathoning. Yet someone "planted the seed". Leading up to the 2018 Houston marathon, everything just "clicked". My body felt good, I had good feelings about the race, and the course, the people, and the motivation was huge. I qualified for my first Boston and had a 20 minute PR almost 14 years after my last marathon.

Running Role Model:

My Dad will always be my role model who was my first and biggest fan. A runner himself, with my encouragement, he returned to running when I was a young adult. He fell in love with trail marathons and qualified for Boston multiple times but never actually registered to run it. His love for running was pure joy and I will always treasure the runs we shared together.

Fun Facts:

  • My senior year of high school my XC team won the state meet and subsequently my senior year of college my XC team won nationals. Fun memories!

  • I've now completed my first Boston marathon and it was an incredible experience!

  • While I enjoy lots of musical genres, I don't know why it often surprises people that I love hard rock music!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I would like to eventually break 1:30:00 in the half marathon.

Running Role Model:

Desi. I admire her mental strength with running, which shows by how she trusts herself and she trusts her plan and training. I always think back to the 2016 Olympic Trials when she stuck with her race plan, even when the leaders surged ahead and she was running by herself. She also seems like she has a fantastic sense of humor and is a good friend (like when she hung back with Shalane during the Boston Marathon).

Fun Facts:

  • I love playing board games

  • I could eat pizza every day of my life (seriously, best food ever)

  • I climbed Kilimanjaro in 2019 (and I would like to climb a 20k+ footer at some point in my life)

Long-Term Running Goals:

Longer term, I want to run a 2:50 marathon and I want to get into ultra-running. A big goal of mine is also to eventually run the Speed Project race with a team and run in more countries, as well as complete all 6 majors (still need New York, Tokyo, London, and Berlin).

Most Memorable Race:

So far, it's my 2:55 PR at Indy Marathon in 2018 and Boston Marathon in 2018. Indy was by far my best run race mentally and physically. I ran a 1:29 and came back in a 1:26. Everything added up and I got out of my head and let training do the work. Breaking 3 hours and doing it by 5 mins at the same time was overwhelming in the best of ways.

Boston 2018 has to be here too - it was POURING, WINDY, and just an overall whirlwind of a race. I ran a 3:00:30 marathon even though the odds were completely stacked against me weather wise. I have endless stories from this race - it will go down in history and anyone that runs it gets it.

I am still just so proud of myself for both of these races and I don't say this often about myself.

Fun Facts:

  • I am a beer and coffee enthusiast!

  • I used to do BMX until I was 17 years old.

  • I got hit in the face by a foul ball that Gordon Beckham hit in the bottom of the 7th inning at a White Sox game in 2014 and it broke my nose, gave me 2 black eyes, and gave me a concussion. I still have the ball!

Most Memorable Race:

Cary March Madness Half - my first half marathon and a proud moment of slaying that hill beast!

Madison Mini / Half Marathon - One of my most memorable runs. Smooth and controlled with a strong finish. Plus, running through Madison!

Long-Term Running Goals:

To continue to improve my times across all distances, but ultimately to get my marathon time down to the low 2:20s

Most Memorable Race:

Paris Marathon 2018. This was my comeback race after a period of 18 months away from formal training. At mile 2.5 I had an issue with my garmin watch, so had to calculate the race in my head by each 5k. This actually meant I raced it on pure feel and effort which resulted in a negative split and a solid comeback race time. In addition the course itself provides an amazing sightseeing tour of Paris and is very well organized.

Fun Facts:

  • I have a serious craving for chocolate.

  • Despite being English, I do not drink tea.

  • I did not run in a competitive running race until I was 31.

2. Break 5 mins in the mile

3. Break 3 hrs in all world major marathons (2 down 4 to go)!

Running Role Model:

Eliud Kipchoge. The one and only marathon G.O.A.T. once said "[o]nly the disciplined ones are free in life." What more can I say?

Fun Facts:

  • I thought it was normal to run four marathons in a year.

Despite not training seriously for a couple years, the elusive 3:00 marathon barrier still speaks to me and I hope to chase after it post-kids.

Most Memorable Race:

The 2011 Boston Marathon - the one and only perfect weather day at Boston (50 degrees with a tailwind) was my second marathon and I ran an 8 minute PR. The intense energy of the crowds and how invincible I felt is something I'll never forget.

Fun Facts:

Most Memorable Race:

2019 Chicago Marathon. My wife gave birth to our first kid 2 weeks before the race, so my taper was limited and sleep was in (very) short supply. On top of that, I had 3 Ubers and 1 Lyft flake on me and cancel, but the CTA came to the rescue and I made it to the start on time. Once I started running, everything just clicked. Dan gave me a very simple race plan (bide your time for 13 miles, start to move up for 5 miles, turn the screws for the last 8) and everything just fell into place. I finished under 3:00 for the first time and with a 6+ minute PR. When I got home my 2-week-old congratulated me by pooping into my hand.

Running Role Model:

Ben True. He won my very first cross country skiing race, while I lost. Ever since then I've aspired to be like Ben. Now he holds American Records and, well, here I am.

Fun Facts:
